When a candidate has provided their driving license details as part of their disclosure check, you need to check the details provided before submitting the check.

The guidance below will help you to check and ensure the information provided has been provided correctly and matches the document the candidate has provided.

A UK driving license consists of eight main sections that you need to check are correct by checking they match the candidate's details provided and match the document the candidate has provided.

  • Surname - must match the candidate's current surname.

  • Forenames - This includes the candidate's First name and any middle names.

If the driving license document shows a middle name and the candidate has not provided this, you will need to update the candidate's details to include their middle name.

  • If a candidate has a middle name and this does not show on the driving license document, the driving license cannot be used as an ID document, and the details will need to be deleted.

  • If a candidate has more than one middle name, the driver's license only shows an initial after the first middle name.

For Example, the candidate's First name is Jane, Middle names are Emma and Louise, the driving license forename section will show these as Jane Emma L.

  • Date and Place of Birth - Must match the details on the Background check.

  • Issue and Expiry dates:- For a UK driving license, the license issue and expiry date must not exceed the maximum 10-year period.

    • Correct example: Issue date Issued 21-Feb-2022 Valid to 20-Feb-2032 is the maximum 10 years.

    • Incorrect example date issued 13-Jul-2023 Valid to 13-Jul-2032 makes the license valid for 10 years 1 day.

  • Driving License number.

  • Surname, Birthdate, Initials, computer-generated digits.
