Workforce

When you select the position for which you need a DBS check processing under, you can view the workforce next to the position. There are three workforces:

  • Child

  • Adult

  • Child and adult

πŸ“Œ Note: You need to know the workforce your position is eligible for; we can't advise on this.

Barring

Barring list checks are dependent on many factors, mainly the setting and activities the candidate undertakes in their job. If they undertake regulated activities with children and adults, or not.

⚠️ Important: Regulated activity with adults is different to regulated activity with children. It's your responsibility to ensure you understand this and only select the barred list check option if the position is eligible. For more information and the regulated activity guides, refer to the government website.

What's classed as a regulated activity is a legal guideline, not what you feel a position should be. It's important that you understand the guides and know what's classed as a regulated setting and regulated activity, and what's not.

A regulated setting doesn't mean barring should be automatically applied.

Incorrectly selected Barring

If you select Barring where a position isn't eligible, the counter-signatory rejects the application. The same happens if you don't select Barring on a position that requires it.

  • If it's missing, where possible, we add barring without needing to contact you.

  • For removal of barring, or where the rejection relates to both child and adult workforce, this requires clarification, as it's possible that you need to select a different position.

In both instances, we'll contact you via a case to clarify details.

If you're unsure about eligibility for a position you're recruiting for, you can download and complete the attached PAF form and log a case via [email protected]. We then seek guidance from the official body on positions and eligibility for you.
